Tottenham will step up their pursuit of defender Gleison Bremer after Torino coach Ivan Juric suggested he will be on the move this summer.
Spurs have been heavily linked with Bremer as Antonio Conte looks to bring in a new defender. Indeed reports last month suggested that Tottenham are pushing strongly to get a deal done. Bremer’s teammate at Torino, Wilfried Singo, was also reported to be a target.
But it is Bremer that is most in demand and Spurs will face strong competition. The report in Calciomercato.it says that a host of top clubs are showing an interest in the cenre-half.
Chelsea have also been linked in the past. Thomas Tuchel will need a replacement for Antonio Rudiger this summer and Bremer is an option for the German.
It is no surprise that there is so much interest in Bremer. He has been a rock in the heart of the Torino defence. A Torino defence that has conceded just 38 goals in 37 games this season. Only the teams in the top four of Serie A have conceded less.
A move away from Torino looks certain to happen. Even Juric is resigned to losing the defender during the close season. During a press conference this week he told the media “I think Bremer will leave”.
Now the only question that needs answering is where will the 25-year-old end up. If Tottenham do want him they will have to move quickly.
The fact that they are likely to be playing Champions League football next season will boost their hopes. Barring a disaster on Sunday a top-four finish will happen. That is sure to be a big plus for Bremer.
He will not come cheap though. Bremer is under contract until 2024 meaning Torino are in a strong position. The asking price is a reported £41million and Torino will be in a position to stand firm.
Calciomercato say that Tottenham made contact a while ago and have been pursuing a deal ever since. The biggest problem they suggest could be fighting off the competition.
Tottenham need to push the boat out
If Tottenham can win the race he would be a great signing for Conte. Bremer has been solid in Serie A over the last two seasons making over 70 appearances.
During that time he has shown he is a leader when captaining the Torino side. He possesses the qualities that Conte admires and it is why he wants him on board.
He has his best years ahead of him and could fit in to any system that Conte wants to play. £41million is a big outlay but seems to be the going rate for top central defenders these days.
