Leeds transfer news: Mohamed Camara signing moves forward as fee revealed, but Prem rivals emerge

The Whites have made a fast start to the summer transfer window, with their business coming in two distinct phases. Manager Jesse Marsch added Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen as fresh faces.

However, now the American is looking to replace Manchester City-bound midfield talisman Kalvin Phillips. He also looks likely to have to replace winger Raphinha.

Leeds are keen on RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams. Reports on Sunday also pointed to Salzburg’s Mali international Camara as an ideal midfield target for the Elland Road club.

According to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, Leeds have subsequently moved in for the 22-year-old.

Whites chiefs have been in ‘direct contact’ with the midfielder’s representatives.

What’s more, Salzburg have allowed Camara not to take part in the club’s pre-season programme to focus on his future.

As for the fee, earlier reports suggested he would be a ‘pricier’ target for Leeds. Taylor suggests that the player will cost between £17million and £25million.

Crucially, though, he adds that Brighton are now going after Camara too. The Seagulls are looking to replace Camara’s fellow Malian Yves Bissouma, who has signed for Tottenham.

Camara has 15 caps for Mali and played alongside Bissouma in the nation’s two recent wins over Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

For Salzburg, Camara has played 76 times, mostly in a defensive midfield role. However, he has played further forward at times.

Leeds feel him, Adams and Aaronson would offer a good midfield blend amid Phillips’ impending move to Man City.

Camara could bolster Leeds

Replacing Phillips will prove a mightily difficult task for Leeds, who will hope their new recruit Aaronson – and potentially Camara and Adams to follow – can make an impact.

The main aim for Leeds next season is to be stable again after having to scrap for survival until the final day of the last Premier League season.

Marsch knows he needs to bolster all across the pitch and Camara, given his connections with Aaronson, could make an impact.

The Leeds and former Leipzig and Salzburg manager is going off what he knows best in the transfer market. But if it works out well next season, the Whites could have a new long-term midfield.

With Camara 22, Aaronson 21 and Adams 23, Leeds could yet look forward to enjoying the trio for many seasons to come.
