Tottenham have been one of the busier clubs thus far in the summer transfer window. Antonio Conte’s side have signed four readymade first-teamers in the form of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.
Djed Spence will take that tally to five when his move from Middlesbrough crosses the line. A deal worth an initial £12.5m has been agreed and one Tottenham insider claimed that could spell trouble for two current stars.
Another Spurs player who may be vulnerable once Spence arrives is Japhet Tanganga.
The 23-year-old is capable of operating either at centre-half or on the right side of defence. However, Lenglet has bolstered the central ranks and Spence will become the new right wing-back.
Multiple reports out of Italy recently claimed Tanganga had emerged as a loan target for AC Milan. Now, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have acted on their interest.
The trusted Italian source reported Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara have ‘made contact’ with Tottenham.
The aim of their discussions is to get a green light to begin holding talks with Tanganga’s agent. If granted, negotiations will quickly ramp up.
Football Italia previously reported Spurs had initially favoured a loan with an obligation to buy if Tanganga were to depart. However, it was then claimed they had softened their stance and would now settle for an option, not obligation.
Di Marzio reaffirmed any move for Tanganga would be a loan, not permanent transfer. With Conte’s backline soon to be filled to the brim, Tanganga’s number could be called.
Tanganga could walk familiar path
An increasing number of English stars are finding success upon moving to Serie A.
Chris Smalling has been a revelation at Roma, while Tammy Abraham’s first season heroics made him an instant hit in the Italian capital.
Fikayo Tomori went from being on the periphery at Chelsea to lifting the Serie A title at Milan. What’s more, his Italian exploits have thrust him into contention for England’s World Cup squad.
Tanganga’s chances of attaining regular game-time next season look slim, even with Conte having a Champions League campaign to juggle.
A move to Serie A with the Italian champions looks to have many benefits and few drawbacks on paper
