The Frenchman joined Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, and Richarlison to become the club’s fifth signing of an impressive summer so far after completing his medical and putting pen to paper on Friday.
The 27-year-old arrives on loan, but despite reports to the contrary, there is no option to buy.
It’s also common knowledge that Lenglet is not Antonio Conte’s first-choice option for the left-sided role in his back three.
Inter Milan star Alessandro was top of the list, closely followed by Gleison Bremer and Josko Gvardiol.
However, landing any of the above proved problematic and led Spurs to the addition of Lenglet instead.
The France international must now learn how to cope with the extra physicality of the Premier League. Stamina will also be key as the games come thick and fast in England, while Tottenham are also back in the Champions League.
But in coming to the decision to move to north London, Lenglet admitted many discussions were had with Hugo Lloris.
Lenglet ready for Tottenham challenge
The Spurs skipper is also Lenglet’s international captain so it made sense to turn to him.
And Lenglet is relishing the challenge ahead, telling Spurs TV: “When you speak to a player who plays in the Premier League, they say it is a beautiful league where you fight every week and it’s very hard to win.
“I’m very happy to be here, to be in this city, at this club. I speak with friends, with my family, to take my decision. And all the words were very, very good speaking about the club.”
As for Lloris’ involvement in bringing him to the club, Lenglet added: “Hugo is a Tottenham legend. I spoke a lot with Hugo to know about the city and everything to ensure I am good with my family in London.”
Defender looks an astute signing for Tottenham
Conte has to be commended for their transfer window so far, with Lengelt’s arrival the fifth of a busy summer so far.
The French defender, while not the club’s first-choice target, looks to be risk-free signing for the club.
Possessing a cultured left foot, Lenglet’s career has gone a little off track at Barcelona last season.
But the move to Spurs looks a smart move by Conte.
Signing on an initial loan, the club has an option to make that move permanent next summer. If he impresses, the reported £9m fee agreed will be money well spent.
If not, then Fabio Paractici will instead re-consider their plans and try again for one of their previous targets.
Lenglet has 15 caps for France and has made over 300 career appearances – the bulk of which have come in LaLiga.
Therefore, he looks an astute signing for Tottenham and fulfils their need to recruit a left-sided centre-half.
