Kalidou Koulibaly looks like Chelsea’s chosen man to replace Antonio Rudiger and centre back, and that’s caused a lot of excitement with fans.
But there are downsides too. If Koulibaly does join, and if Nathan Ake does join him, where does that leave Levi Colwill? Chelsea will be hanging a 31 year old a 5 year contract, blocking Colwill for good.
After a great season on loan with Huddersfield in the Championship, the youngster looked like the perfect candidate to step into the first team picture.
But now he will be shunted to the back of the queue – loaned out or even possibly sold.
That will be a real disappointment to those fans who wanted to see him get time as a squad player this season, with a view to full integration in the future, all being well.
Or is the idea that Koulibaly is so much older that Colwill can come back in a year’s time and be used then?
