Raheem Sterling announces £50m Chelsea transfer with farewell message to Manchester City

Raheem Sterling has penned an emotional farewell letter ahead of his impending £50m transfer to Chelsea.

The Blues are expected to pay £47.5m up front, with a further £2.5m in add-ons for the England star. While a contract until 2027 has been penned, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 27-year-old has passed a medical and has flown out to Los Angeles to link up with his Thomas Tuchel and his new Chelsea squad.

The deal was agreed over the weekend and will officially be announced imminently, ending Sterling’s seven-year spell with the champions.

Sterling, who made over than 300 appearances for City, winning multiple trophies – including four Premier League titles, revealed his “respect” for everyone at The Etihad.

“Seven seasons, 11 major trophies, a lifetime of memories,” wrote Sterling. “To the coaching staff who have played a massive role in my development over the years. To my team-mates who have become more than just those I share a pitch with.

“And to the backroom staff, to the office staff, to the fans who have tirelessly supported the team. And to everyone involved with Manchester City, my respect for you couldn’t be greater. What a ride it’s been.

“I am thankful for the ups and the downs as it’s the downs that have at times, tested my strength and resolve, and enabled me to stand here in front of you as the best possible version of myself.”

Sterling snubbed Liverpool

Liverpool were understood to be interested in bringing the forward back to the club at the 11th hour.

The Daily Star explained the Reds made a late attempt to hijack the move from under Chelsea’s noses. Whether or not an offer was lodged rermains unclear, but Sterling only had eyes for Chelsea.

Sterling has met with Thomas Tuchel and he is expected to be the focal point for Chelsea next season. At City, Sterling had to share his attacking duties with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva.

And the arrival of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez has only intensified the competition for Pep Guardiola.
