Armando Broja offered new contract to cement his place as Chelsea’s main backup forward

Armando Broja came on as sub against Tottenham yesterday, much as he did against Everton on matchweek one.

It’s not the starring role he would have hoped for, but it’s two more appearances for the club than he had not long ago, and it is starting to cement his place as the main backup striker, behind a fluid front three without a natural number 9 that appears to be Thomas Tuchel’s first choice.

To that end, the club are trying to get the Albania international to sign a new contract, now it’s certain he’s not leaving either on loan or permanently this season. David Ornstein in the Athletic writes that talks are taking place to extend his current deal, which still has 4 years to run.

It will be a financial commitment from the club, in return for Broja accepting a bit part role for the foreseeable future. Let’s hope he takes it.
