As if Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with local rivals Tottenham wasn’t dramatic enough last night, after the game, news filtered in of Chelsea making an offer to sign an Everton player.
A couple of sources started to report that Chelsea had made an offer around £40m to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon, a report that many found very hard to believe.
Sources: Chelsea in talks with Celtic involving two players.
However, some of the top sources then started to confirm the report, and the reality is, it looks like Chelsea are actually trying to sign the England U21 international before the window closes this month.
Fabrizio Romano soon confirmed the bid:
Chelsea are discussing internally of new proposal for Anthony Gordon as opening bid worth £40m has been rejected by Everton today. #CFC

Matt Law at The Telegraph also reported it, but says discussions are so far informal:
Final par of this has Chelsea's interest in Anthony Gordon. Told discussions over a fee so far informal. Chelsea also expected to step up Aubameyang interest https://t.co/8OrSUBZEHa

The BBC also ran a story on the bid not long after, and they say that Chelsea are likely to come back with a higher offer in a bid to tempt Everton to sell, and there is the potential for a cash-plus-player loan, with Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher being mentioned.
