While the summer transfer window may have recently closed, Barcelona are already chalking out plans for the next summer. A long-term heir for Sergio Busquets will be at the top of the agenda for the Blaugrana, with the captain’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona are also planning on making a huge investment to sign a new right-back in the summer of 2023.
The Catalans brought in a new right-back this summer, signing Hector Bellerin on a free transfer on the deadline day. However, the former La Masia ace is only contracted with the club for one year.
On top of that, Sergi Roberto’s contract also stands to run out next year, which means the Blaugrana will be without a right-back on the roster.
So, plans are already underway to bring in a top-notch right-sided full-back in the summer of next year. Previous reports had indicated that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is a player on the Catalan giants’ agenda.
However, as per the aforementioned report, Barcelona have their sights set on a move for AS Monaco right-back Vanderson. The 21-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Gremio in January earlier this year, is rated very highly and has fared well in his short time in Europe.
So far, Vanderson has made 29 appearances for Monaco, registering two goals and three assists. The Brazilian prospect is ‘liked’ at Barcelona due to the potential he possesses.
However, he is contracted until 2027, while his valuation stands at a massive €60 million, which would make things difficult for Barça.
The Catalans are also continuing to track LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo after missing out on a deadline day for the Mexican international. It will be interesting to see who they decide to sign with plans underway to splash the cash on a new right-back next year.
