Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd ready to go all out for ‘luxury’ Atletico Madrid star after cut-price fee emerges; Real want two Man City ‘Galacticos’

Jan Oblak and Koke

Manchester United are desperate to sign an Atletico Madrid player and could complete a deal for a brilliant fee, Real Madrid are plotting a raid on Manchester City for two top stars, while Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Arsenal can ‘easily afford’ to capture a Bundesliga man.

MAN UTD WANT ‘LUXURY’ LA LIGA STAR

Manchester United have a ‘fervent’ interest in Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and could sign him for much less than this transfer value, according to reports.

United’s current goalkeeper, David de Gea, is in the final year of his contract. Reports claim the Red Devils are considering offering him an extension.

But it seems United are keeping their options open and are also scouring Europe for a potential replacement between the sticks.

And they have landed on one of the best shot-stoppers in the world, in Oblak, as a transfer target.

United first set their sights on him on September 14. As per French source Jeunes Footeux, United want the 29-year-old so much that they are willing to double his Atleti wages.

Tottenham have since joined United in the race to sign the keeper. Antonio Conte needs a replacement for Hugo Lloris as the Frenchman is now 35 years old and firmly in the twilight years of his career.

With this in mind, Oblak has become a ‘primary target’ for Spurs in recent days. And they have made contact with his representatives over a switch to north London, too.

The pursuit is now heating up, as Spanish outlet AS provide their information on Oblak and claim United have a ‘fervent’ interest in landing him.

Ten Hag, along with senior United officials, views the Slovenia international as a ‘luxury replacement’ for De Gea at Old Trafford.

Rather than going for a young keeper with good potential, United want a world-class stopper to succeed from De Gea. And Oblak fits perfectly into this category, having kept 177 clean sheets in 360 games for Atleti.

Oblak has a six-year contract with Diego Simeone’s team, as well as a release clause standing at £103m. However, he could move to England for far less than this sum.

Shock fee for Oblak appears

That’s because the Evening Standard claim Atleti are willing to sell him for just £27m. transfermarkt rate Oblak at £36m, while his value has previously hit £90m. This shows just how good of a deal United or Spurs could get.

Atleti know Oblak is unsettled at the Wanda Metropolitano as he considers the two Prem proposals. Due to this, they are eyeing up De Gea as his replacement. This could see Oblak and De Gea go in opposite directions next year.

Oblak has won several trophies while at Atleti, including a La Liga title and the Europa League. He has generally competed in the Champions League with the Spanish club.

As such, the offer of UCL football will go a big way in deciding where the player ends up. This provides Spurs and United with even more motivation to get in the top four.
