Casemiro impressed

Erik ten Hag has praised Casemiro's performance in Manchester United's 2-1 over Everton, stating that fans saw how 'important he is' to the team on Sunday evening.

The midfielder was at fault for Everton's goal inside the opening five minutes, losing the ball in the lead up the goal, but recovered well to put in a solid display alongside the impressive Christian Eriksen in the heart of the Man Utd midfielder.

When asked about Casemiro being dispossessed in the lead up to Everton's goal, speaking to BT Sport, Ten Hag said: "Yeah but I think he will [learn to] anticipate quickly and you saw that during the game how important he is.

"He is that composed, winning a lot of balls, winning also the ball for the goal of Cristiano Ronaldo so he grew into the game so a good performance."

Speaking about the overall performance Ten Hag said: "We were quickly 1-0 down. The reaction of the team was good, and one of our aims is to deal better with setbacks and now they stay composed.

"I think the first 35 minutes were quite impressive from our side. Especially in the first half we were pressing well, and Everton didn't come out so it was difficult for them to cope in the game...so happy with that."

Ten Hag also provided an update on Anthony Martial's injury, saying: "No I don't think [that is was a recurrence of his previous injury] so, it's something different. He had a problem in his back. But he was important, an assist for the goal of Antony so we're happy with that and once again we're happy with all the subs who came on. Cristiano scoring the winning goal.
