SERGEJ MILINKOVIC-SAVIC ADVISED TO AVOID MAN UTD TRANSFER
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been advised that a move to Manchester United could ruin his career and has been told to sign for their rivals instead.
The Lazio star has long been on the Red Devils’ radar dating back to the days of Jose Mourinho. Back then, the Serie A side valued the player in the £130m (€150m) bracket – a fee beyond what United were prepared to spend.
However, his name has been doing the rounds again and reports over the summer suggested he could emerge as a target again.
Furthermore, it was suggested that, with his deal expiring in 2024, a departure for around £56.7m (€65m) could be on the cards.
And while that move did not materialise, he seemingly remains on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist ahead of the January window.
Indeed, speculation suggesting he could move to Old Trafford recently prompted a strong response from Milinkovic-Savic.
That said, reports that United may make a move to sign him in January have now suffered a blow.
Milinkovic-Savic told to sign for Man City
That’s with Italian journalist Giuseppe Bergomi advising the player a move to Old Trafford is damaging for his career.
Instead, Bergomi has talked up the possibility of a move to Manchester City, suggesting he could thrive there in the same way as Kevin De Bruyne.
Speaking to LazioNews24, Bergomi asked: “But why don’t the top clubs come to take him, that’s what I’m wondering. Top club? He has to choose the right team for his qualities.
“If you send him to Manchester United it’s not good, if he goes to City he will be like De Bruyne.”
Despite the warning, Milinkovic-Savic will likely come into United’s thinking should they fail to land top target Frenkie de Jong.
The Red Devils brought in Casemiro over the summer but claims suggest he is not a player Ten Hag was keen on.
