'Nothing can stop' Haaland from leaving Man City after £175.5m 'agreement' - pundit

'Nothing can stop' Haaland from leaving Man City after £175.5m 'agreement' - pundit

There is nothing stopping Erling Haaland from leaving Man City if he chooses to do so.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s future.

As per The Athletic, Haaland has a £175.5million release clause that kicks in from the summer of 2024, the value of the clause then diminishes as he gets closer to the end of his five-year deal.

Man City

The former Dortmund man has been in sensational form since joining City in the summer, scoring 20 goals in 13 competitive outings so far this season.

McLeish claims there is nothing stopping Haaland from leaving Man City.

“If he has a fantastic couple of seasons where he is at the level we know he is capable of, there is no reason why he won’t stay,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“I guess things can happen in terms of players’ ambition. For example, Sadio Mane went to Bayern Munich and we all had conversations thinking about whether it was his ambition to play in Germany, for one of the giants.

“Haaland will be the same. He might have thoughts that he wants to play for one of the Spanish giants, nothing can stop players these days.

“£200million on your head is something that will scare a lot of clubs and it will have to be somebody very, very elite.”

Man City

Man City currently sit second in the Premier League, behind Arsenal by one point.

Pep Guardiola’s side are next in action against a struggling Liverpool side on Sunday (16 October).

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a “shock” claim as a £68million-a-year Man City payout is analysed.
