The success of Arsenal in the Premier League has led to a big change in how Manchester City will conduct their future transfers, a report claims.
Arsenal have won 12 of their 14 Premier League matches so far this season, putting them top of the Premier League table on 37 points. They have a five-point lead on reigning champions City, who have won 10 of their 14 games.
Newcastle occupy third spot, while Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are in fourth. At the current time of writing, it looks like Arsenal are the team who will push City all the way for the Prem crown.
That’s partly because Chelsea and Manchester United are both going through periods of transition under new managers. Liverpool, meanwhile, have had a sluggish start to the campaign and are in sixth spot.
A big part of Arsenal’s great start is down to their summer transfer business. They raided City for first-team stars Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Gunners also brought in Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos.
These transfers saw Arsenal improve their starting eleven, increase the quality of the wider squad and make the future look brighter with the capture of teenager Marquinhos.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, they may struggle to repeat such a successful transfer window due to a big City decision.
Man City reach major decision on Arsenal deals
According to online source Football Insider, City have come to an executive decision over Arsenal transfers. After letting Jesus and Zinchenko join the Gunners earlier this year, they will no longer sell players to Arsenal in the future.
The Citizens didn’t view Arsenal as direct rivals when they let the pair move to north London. This is because Arteta’s side finished fifth in the league last season.
However, Jesus and Zinchenko have excelled at Arsenal, helping them to become firm title challengers. And the report claims questions are now being asked at City about why they let the two players leave the Etihad.
Jesus hasn’t exactly been deadly in front of goal, bagging five goals in 20 appearances so far. However, he is getting the best out of those around him and has chipped in with seven assists.
The Brazilian is also establishing himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates. He gets the crowd going with brilliant bits of skill and exceptional hold up play.
Zinchenko, meanwhile, has become an incredibly useful player for Arteta due to his versatility. He can compete with Kieran Tierney for a spot at left-back or play in central midfield.
And the 25-year-old has been a composed operator whenever he has been called upon.
Clearly, having serial winners like Jesus and Zinchenko in the squad has taken Arsenal to the next level. And City now want to prevent them from getting any better in the future. Negotiations between the two clubs from now on will be quickly shut down.
Previously, it was City raiding Arsenal for players. The likes of Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri all left Arsenal for City in controversial transfers.
But Arsenal managed to turn the tide in the summer, and to great effect too.
