The uncertainty over Lionel Messi’s future is increasing by the minute even as the attacker continues to mesmerise the onlookers with his performances at Paris Saint-Germain
The Argentine has been linked with a move to the United States lately, but Barcelona still remain in the contest, in their bid to bring the forward back to Camp Nou. President Joan Laporta is trying to reconcile with the player following his abrupt departure last year and it appears Barça are prepared to sign him on a free transfer in 2023.
As a matter of fact, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has already outlined a plan to use Lionel Messi in his attacking setup next season, reports Joan Fontes.
It appears the Spanish tactician wants to utilise Messi’s qualities in the right-interior position. His creativity and dribbling prowess on the right-side channel could add another dimension to the Barcelona attack that has been spearheaded well by Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish hitman has racked up 13 goals in 12 La Liga matches this season, showing his predatory instincts in front of goal. His goalscoring prowess could come in handy especially if Barcelona have Messi offering additional creativity on the pitch.
The Catalans have already emerged as a fierce attacking team in La Liga this season and the addition of Messi could only improve their tally. The offensive combination between Messi and Lewandowski may even catapult Barcelona into becoming one of the strongest attacking teams in Europe.
That said, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona are able to sign Messi next summer, especially in the midst of an economic crisis. A lot could depend on how well they manage to get rid of their fringe players, including Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba, among others.
