Barcelona make first contact to renew the contract of La Masia wonderkid

Lamine Yamal may just be 15 years old but the La Masia prodigy is already generating a lot of excitement among Barcelona fans.

Given his age, the 15-year-old forward should be playing with Barça’s Cadete A team, but has already broken into the club’s Juvenil A side and has even trained with the senior team on several occasions.

Manager Xavi Hernandez has already spoken highly of the teenage sensation, confirming that there is a plan in place for his progression.

Yamal will turn 16 later this year at which point he will be able to sign his first professional contract. And a whole host of clubs from across Europe are interested in the young wonderkid and are ready with offers.

It has put Barcelona in a precarious position and the Catalans are intent on ensuring that the 15-year-old continues his development at the club.

To that end, SPORT reports that Barça have made first contact with Yamal’s entourage to begin discussions over a new contract for the teenage sensation.

Club director Mateu Alemany is said to be leading the negotiations as he looks to tie down the future of one of the most exciting young talents to have come through the ranks at La Masia in recent years.

There had been rumours that Xavi might consider calling Yamal up in one of Barça’s Copa del Rey clashes this season.

While that might not materialise, the youngster is likely to be included in the first-team setup’s pre-season camp in the summer to show that the club have a plan in place for his progression into the senior team, which could go a long way in convincing him to sign a new contract.
