Following his sending-off in the game against Atletico Madrid this past Sunday, Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has been handed a two-match suspension by the RFEF Competitions Committee.
Torres was involved in a huge brawl with Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic in the stoppage time at the Civitas Metropolitano. The two players went at each other, pulling hair and holding necks in what seemed like a wrestling contest.
The referee decided to issue red cards to both Torres and Savic in the aftermath of the incident.
It had been suggested that the Barcelona forward could be suspended for as many as three matches at most as the incident was not deemed as an assault with neither player getting injured in the melee.
Now, the RFEF Competitions Committee has confirmed that Torres has been hit with a two-match ban along with Savic, which will only be applicable in La Liga.
Torres will be available to feature in the upcoming Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey clashes. However, the former Manchester City ace will miss the La Liga encounters against Getafe and Girona.
The Catalans will also be without Robert Lewandowski for those two matches, which puts Xavi in a tricky position with regard to his attacking options against Girona and Getafe, especially with Ansu Fati not firing on all cylinders and Memphis Depay being linked with an exit.
