Boehly ‘tables’ deal as incredible Chelsea raid for PSG megastar takes shape after ‘breakdown in relations’

PSG forwards Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar

Todd Boehly has held a meeting with his counterpart at PSG over the idea of bringing a megastar forward to Chelsea, per a report.

The Blues have been by far world football’s biggest spenders over the last six months. Chelsea have forked out well in excess of half a billion pounds in the last two windows, though as yet, results on the pitch are not reflecting their colossal outlay.

Chelsea failed to win once again on Wednesday night when falling 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Amid the rotten results, the Athletic’s David Ornstein recently provided a telling update on the chances of Graham Potter being sacked.

The UCL represents their last chance of silverware this season and winning it could very well be Chelsea’s only way back into Europe’s premier competition next season.

Issues in the final third have plagued Chelsea all year. As such, moves for the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix were sanctioned in January. RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku will join the Blues revolution at season’s end too.

However, according to French outlet Le Parisien, Chelsea have an even higher profile frontman in mind.

Boehly explores Neymar to Chelsea deal

Via Sky Sports, it’s claimed Chelsea chairman, Todd Boehly, met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi earlier this week.

Among the topics discussed was a remarkable swoop for Brazil megastar Neymar.

The 31-year-old remains world football’s most expensive ever signing. His €222m move from Barcelona to Paris back in 2017 is yet to be topped.

Neymar is his country’s joint-top scorer at senior international level (77 goals), a distinction he currently shares with the legendary Pele.

But at club level he’s endured mixed fortunes with PSG’s inability to win the Champions League a notable bugbear.

The addition of Lionel Messi was expected to give the French giant the extra class and experience they needed to finally lift the big one. However, despite boasting three of world football’s icons with Kylian Mbappe in tow too, PSG continue to falter.

PSG dressing room falling apart

The Mirror recently reported PSG are ‘preparing for the exits of both Lionel Messi and Neymar following a breakdown in dressing room relations’. That was before they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in the UCL on Tuesday.

Neymar was reportedly hugely critical of teammates Vitinha and Hugo Ekitike in the aftermath of their Ligue 1 defeat to Monaco on Saturday.

There’s also understood to be tension simmering away between Neymar and Mbappe that had its roots in a disagreement over who should take penalties.

The saga in Paris could ultimately work to Chelsea’s benefit after Sky Sports state Boehly has explored a deal for Neymar. The outlet’s heading for their piece reads: ‘Boehly tables Neymar deal’.

Details beyond that vague statement are few and far between. Clearly, any such move is in its infancy at present.

However, Boehly has shown he’s not averse to splashing the cash and Neymar’s time in France is coming to a crossroads.

Given he’s now 31, the Brazilian won’t cost anywhere near the €222m he did six years ago.

Regardless, the biggest barrier to a deal is likely to be his salary anyway, plus the fact Chelsea may not have Champions League football to offer next season.
