Graham Potter sack latest: Chelsea and Boehly ‘not happy’ with moment that’ll spell the end revealed

Graham Potter of Chelsea

Chelsea are far from pleased with the club’s progress under Graham Potter, and three specific moments that could result in the axe falling have come to light.

The Blues were once again the biggest spenders in world football last month. Chelsea forked out well over half a billion on new recruits over the past two transfer windows. While few expected an immediate turnaround, it’s fair to say many did not expect Chelsea to be languishing down in ninth position with a measly +1 goal difference.

The Blues have also bowed out of both domestic cups on Graham Potter’s watch. The draw was admittedly unkind after facing Man City in both competitions.

In any case, TEAMtalk has learned three upcoming matches could prove pivotal in shaping whether Potter has a future at Stamford Bridge.

Today’s clash with London rivals West Ham is the first. The latter pair involves Chelsea Champions League Round of 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund, due to take place on February 15 and March 7.

Our insider, Graeme Bailey, explained Boehly and the club at large are “not happy” with how the Blues are progressing under Potter.

The American and his Clearlake partners will back Potter for now, but the situation could quickly change and potentially as early as the final whistle of their lunchtime clash with the Hammers.

“As it stands Chelsea are backing their manger – but as it stands is key here,” said Bailey.

“Todd Boehly likes Graham Potter and it is fair to say he was his man, but he and the club are not happy.

“They were never particularly looking for an immediate title challenge when bringing him in. However, their perceived lack of progress has been and is very worrying.

“Chelsea’s performances in the Champions League are set to be key for Potter and his future, but some individual games will be key – their match with West Ham this weekend, for instance, is huge.

“A dismal display at the London Stadium and things could get interesting in the boardroom at Stamford Bridge.”

Potter’s record prior to today’s clash with West Ham stands at nine wins, six draws and seven defeats across all competitions.

That equates to a dismal win percentage of just 40.9 percent. For reference, Thomas Tuchel returned a win percentage of exactly 60 percent.
