Boehly celebrates major Chelsea win as Euro giant’s move for big-name Blues star brutally shut down

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly will be happy to learn that Bayern Munich are not planning to move for one of his big-name players, with the rumours brushed aside by a German football expert.

Chelsea fans will have been intrigued to see former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel appointed as Bayern boss. He has replaced Julian Nagelsmann by penning a two-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

Tuchel was in charge of Chelsea between January 2021 and September 2022. During his time in west London, he helped Chelsea to win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea earlier this season, with one of the main reasons for his departure being that he did not get on well with the new owners. Graham Potter replaced Tuchel, but interestingly Nagelsmann has already been named as a potential replacement for the Englishman, in case he fails to drag Chelsea up the Premier League table.

Tuchel joining Bayern has led to rumours that the reigning Bundesliga champions might take a couple of Chelsea players to Germany.

On Tuesday, The Times suggested that Bayern could reunite Tuchel with English midfielder Mason Mount.

Bayern know that Chelsea need to offload players this summer. They are also aware of the fact Mount is in a contract stalemate with the Stamford Bridge club. Bayern are supposedly preparing to take advantage of this situation.

But in a major boost for Chelsea chief Boehly, Mount will not be heading to Bavaria. During an appearance on talkSPORT, German journalist Raphael Honigstein has completely shut down the transfer link.

Journalist rejects Mason Mount to Bayern theory

“Tuchel might like the player, he might have done something privately to encourage the view that Mount might get an offer from Bayern,” the reporter said.

“But, knowing how Tuchel works, it’s the last thing he would have done now, asking for a player for the summer already, so I would take that with a grain of salt personally.

“Bayern also have possibly too many players in attacking midfield positions. You’ve seen that Sadio Mane is really struggling, especially since coming back from injury and I think Tuchel will have to take a very clear eyed view of the situation.

“I don’t think he’s going to make any recommendations to the board having not even met half of the players because they are still on international duty. I think he trained with five first-team players yesterday and he won’t have many more today.

“So, I think that story is convenient for some people but it doesn’t hurt to be linked with Bayern, and I’m sure Tuchel loves him. But, I don’t think that the Bayern offer will be in the post anytime soon.”

Boehly will be delighted to hear that Bayern are unlikely to snare Mount. It gives him one less club to worry about as he tries to tie the player down to a new contract.

While Bayern are not in the running, Boehly does still have a couple of clubs he must fight off. Man Utd and Liverpool are both keeping tabs on Mount’s situation ahead of shock potential moves.
