Manchester United and Tottenham have found out just how much it will cost to sign Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, with the midfielder potentially in line to become the most expensive Premier League player of all time.
Camavinga joined Real from Rennes in a £34.4million deal in August 2021. Despite being just 20 years of age, Camavinga is already proving himself to be an important player for the Spanish side.
He has played 43 times under Carlo Ancelotti this season, with 27 of those games coming in La Liga.
Camavinga generally likes to operate in central midfield, but he has played at left-back for Ancelotti in recent months. The France international has been filling in for usual left-backs Ferland Mendy and David Alaba while the duo have been recovering from injury.
Ancelotti has revealed that Camavinga does not like playing on the left side of defence. But he has still impressed both in terms of defending and getting forward to help with attacks.
Surprisingly, Camavinga has been linked with a major move to the Premier League. On March 8, reports coming out of Spain claimed Casemiro had urged Man Utd chiefs to capture Camavinga.
Casemiro worked with the starlet for one season before joining Man Utd in a £70m deal last summer. Clearly, he was left impressed by Camavinga’s ability and temperament.
Spanish outlet Defensa Central now claim Tottenham are also interested in the La Liga ace.
Real Madrid hope to prevent Camavinga exit
However, Real view him as being an integral player for the future. They know they will need Camavinga to play in midfield every week once Luka Modric and Toni Kroos retire.
Due to this, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has put an astronomical valuation on Camavinga’s head. The report claims he will only leave the Bernabeu if a colossal €200m (£175m) offer comes in.
This means either Man Utd or Spurs would have to shatter the Prem transfer record to bring Camavinga to England. That record is currently held by Enzo Fernandez, who cost Chelsea £107m when leaving Benfica in January.
Real can demand this much as they are in no danger about Camavinga leaving on a free transfer any time soon. His contract in the Spanish capital runs until June 2027.
Man Utd and Spurs must now decide whether Camavinga is worth that kind of money. Clearly, he is a very talented player with the potential to emerge into a world-class star. But it would be a surprise if either English team launched a £175m bid.
Erik ten Hag’s priority this summer is to bring in a top-class striker. That move will probably cost the Red Devils around £100m, and they would not be able to afford to spend £175m on Camavinga as well.
Spurs, meanwhile, have never had the funds to get near that huge £175m valuation. Their current record signing is Tanguy Ndombele, who cost £63m when moving to the north London club in July 2019.
While it does not look like Camavinga will be moving to the Prem for a record sum, Victor Osimhen could still smash the £107m barrier.
Napoli have told Man Utd and Chelsea that the lethal striker will only move if a £175m proposal comes in. And he has earned this valuation more than Camavinga, having netted 25 goals in 29 games this term.
Meanwhile, a report has revealed Man Utd will not be able to land one of Ten Hag’s main targets under any circumstances this summer.
