Barcelona are continuously putting efforts to make sure they acquire Lionel Messi in the summer. Right now, the team from Catalonia has a clear strategy in place, but it is more than evident that the journey is not going to be as easy as it seems.
Before signing any player, let alone Messi, Barcelona will need a go-ahead from La Liga. The league is currently studying Barcelona’s Feasibility Plan wherein the team has mentioned how they plan to lower the salary. Once that is done, only then will the Blaugrana begin to officially approach Messi.
For the moment, Barcelona have proposed salary cuts and incomes from some sales. If the team receives the green signal from the league, SPORT reports that they will ask for a document that would guarantee the signing of Lionel Messi and other transfer targets. This would also involve the registration of the pending players.
Barcelona’s idea to acquire this piece of paper is to assure Messi that they are in a position to register him for the next season. Once that his done, the team will officially start the negotiations with the veteran forward.
Barcelona’s effort to bring Messi back has been in effect from all fronts. Club president Joan Laporta recently admitted that he has been in touch with the World Cup winner, saying that the two have been exchanging texts lately.
“I have spoken with Leo to somehow redirect the situation that occurred when I had to put the institution ahead of everything, including him, the best player in the world. We’ve been texting lately,” said the president.
“The truth is that the conversation was affectionate and pleasant. I congratulated him on the World Cup. He has returned. We’ve known each other for many years, there’s a relationship.”
Barça executives, including Mateu Alemany, have been working on the proposed Feasibility Plan for quite some time and in that regard, the next meeting between the club and the league officials will be key. The two parties are expected to meet on Friday, May 19.
Fabrizio Romano adds that Barcelona do not intend to give up on their efforts to re-sign Messi and will continue to push La Liga to green light their Financial viability plan.
