Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has decided that he wants to leave the club this summer, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. As such, a host of top clubs, including FC Barcelona, have shown an interest in securing his services.
Pavard has been at Bayern Munich since 2018 and has been a regular in the side for the most part of his stint. However, question marks were raised over his future after a falling out with former manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Things eventually improved though and Pavard once again become a prominent player after Thomas Tuchel took over the reins. However, the French international, whose contract with the Bavarians expires in 2024, does not wish to renew and is looking for a way out.
And, following this development, Barcelona have expressed an interest in securing his services.
The Blaugrana have been linked with a move for Pavard for quite some time now, although things appeared to have gone quiet on that front of late. The focus seemed to have shifted towards Joao Cancelo, whom Manchester City are ready to sell in the summer.
However, financing a move for the Portuguese international in the summer could be a tricky affair for Barça. As such, Pavard remains on the agenda, especially considering that he will be entering the final year of his contract at Bayern and could be available for a bargain.
But, Barcelona are facing competition from several top clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United in the race for the Frenchman.
With Jules Kounde making it clear that he does not wish to continue in the right-back position next term, the La Liga champions need reinforcements as they cannot continue with just Sergi Roberto as an option.
Whether they capitalise on Pavard’s intention to leave and sign him from Bayern Munich or go hard at Cancelo’s signing remains to be seen.
