Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea have wrapped up a third attacking signing, with the latest coming from the Championship.
The Blues have hit the headlines for their mammoth outlay on readymade first-team players over the last two windows. However, their ambition in the market is yet to be matched by results on the pitch.
Nonetheless, Todd Boehly and co. cannot be faulted when it comes to putting their money where their mouths are.
A summer firesale is an inevitable consequence of the mass influx of new players. However, a select few signings in key positions will still be made.
Bolstering the club’s under-powered forward line is the top priority and Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig has already signed off on a £53m arrival.
Ecuardorian wonderkid, Kendry Paez, has also agreed a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fended off competition from Man Utd and Man City for the 15-year-old who’ll cost around €20m when all is said and done.
Due to UK work permit laws, Paez cannot link up with Chelsea until turning 18. As such, his arrival in west London will be delayed until 2025, at which point he’ll be among the headline attractions in Chelsea’s star-studded Under-21s.
Todd Boehly has made it his mission to invest in Chelsea’s future since taking charge. Indeed, goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, right-back Malo Gusto, midfield trio Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Andrey Santos, and striker David Datro Fofana have all joined up. Crucially, all are aged 20 or under and have their best years ahead.
Paez can be added to that list and according to Fabrizio Romano, so too can Alex Matos.
The Norwich City right winger, 18, has agreed to join Chelsea at season’s end, at which point he’ll be a free agent.
Romano tweeted the move is “confirmed” and all the relevant documents and contracts have been “sealed” over the last 24 hours.
Matos has featured 13 times in the Premier League 2 for Norwich this term and will slot straight into Jim Fraser’s Under-21s at Chelsea this summer.
