Chelsea open talks with Liverpool icon, as three sources confirm deal that’ll break Klopp’s heart is coming

Sadio Mane and Liverpool stars Fabinho and Roberto Firmino

Three separate sources are all tipping Chelsea to sign a Liverpool legend, with one claiming talks with the player have already taken place.

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool sold Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich for just £27.4m (initial fee) last summer. However, a highly publicised bust-up with teammate Leroy Sane, combined with a notable drop in form suggests Liverpool got out at just the right time.

Mane has notched just 12 goals in 36 matches for Bayern this term. He’s never been a regular starter under Julian Nagelsmann or Thomas Tuchel either.

As such, Sky Germany claimed Bayern will axe one of their most high profile wingers at season’s end. TEAMtalk recently learned Mane is the player who’ll make way.

Despite questions over how effective Mane still is, one club who are seemingly prepared to roll the dice is Chelsea.

Indeed, Football Insider recently reported Mane’s name has been brought up during Mauricio Pochettino’s own discussions with Chelsea. Pochettino is the odds-on favourite to become the next Blues boss.

Finally, journalist Pedro Almeida tweeted ‘first talks’ between Chelsea and Mane took place in Munich last weekend. Almeida then concluded the Blues are ‘favourites’ to sign the 31-year-old.

Mane is a veritable living legend on Merseyside having formed one third of Liverpool’s fabled front three.

The left winger – who can also deputise at centre-forward – was an instrumental figure in Liverpool lifting their sixth European Cup/Champions League in 2019.

He also bagged 18 goals in the season Liverpool lifted their first ever Premier League title in 2019/20 and was a four-time selection in the PFA team of the year during his time at Anfield.

While his place in Liverpool folklore is already assured, joining a bitter rival in the form of Chelsea would be a bitter pill to swallow for Jurgen Klopp and co.
