Barcelona are yet to make any significant move in the transfer market. After missing out on Lionel Messi, the club have stepped up their efforts to sign a new midfielder ahead of the new season.
However, the club are also keen on registering the renewals of some of the existing stars. They are particularly looking to ratify the contract extensions of Ronald Araujo and Gavi, who had penned a new deal with the club last year.
According to RAC1, Barcelona can not only register the contracts of Araujo and Gavi, but also two other stars. This comes shortly after La Liga gave the club approval for the economic feasibility plan.
The club have wiggle room to register at least four players in the coming summer. They have been aided by the departures of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, two of the highest-paid players on the team.
Barcelona, therefore, are actively trying to register the contract renewal of Sergi Roberto, Inaki Pena, Marcos Alonso, and Inigo Martinez. They are also looking to reach an agreement with Alejandro Balde, who was one of the club’s rising stars this past season.
Given the room for four players, Barcelona are likely to prioritise some players more than others. The registration of Pena, for one, may have to wait, as Barça might look to ratify the deals of Roberto and Alonso first, before moving on to others.
However, it must be mentioned that Barcelona may have space to register more players in the coming weeks, as they continue their efforts to offload unwanted stars from the team. The sale of these players could bring in fresh funds while helping the club deleverage its balance sheets.
Barcelona, therefore, have no reason to panic, at least for the time being. However, the Catalans must step up their efforts to get rid of unwanted stars and bring in fresh money, if they are to build the team properly ahead of the new season.
