Man Utd have fended off interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea and secured an agreement to sign a Watford star tipped for the very top, per multiple reports.
Headlines at Old Trafford will revolve around incomings and outgoings from Man Utd’s first-team squad this summer. A new goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder and striker are all wanted.
Regarding exits, something of a clear-out is expected and the Daily Mail claimed United are willing to accept just £45m for struggling winger Jadon Sancho.
That will no doubt alert Tottenham who have shown interest, though today’s update regards a player more concerned with the future than the present.
Indeed, TEAMtalk exclusively revealed back in April Man Utd were sizing up Watford starlets Harry Amass and Adrian Blake.
Blake, 17, eluded Man Utd upon signing for Dutch side Utrecht on June 12. However, according to both Fabrizio Romano and the Manchester Evening News, United have snared Amass.
The 16-year-old plies his trade in Watford’s academy, though has already represented England at Under-16 level.
As an indication of just how highly Amass is rated, he was named on Watford’s bench during their FA Cup clash with Reading back on January 7. Amass was still two months shy of turning 16 at the time.
Amass is a talented left-back who is viewed as not only a future first-team star, but potentially even a senior England international down the road.
TEAMtalk learned Arsenal and Chelsea were among those chasing his signature, though it’s Man Utd who’ve won the race.
Indeed, Romano tweeted Amass to Man Utd is ‘deal done’. The player’s move to Old Trafford will be completed this week, much to Watford’s chagrin.
The Hornets had hoped to retain Amass and per the MEN, offered the teenager a two-year professional contract he could’ve signed when turning 17 next March.
However, Amass has instead opted to join Man Utd who will now be on the hook for a compensation fee.
Amass will pen a four-year deal at Old Trafford and per the MEN, United fans will have a chance to see what he’s made of in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup later this year.
Amass is expected to feature in the tournament in Indonesia that will take place between November 10 – December 2.
