As Barcelona continue their pursuit of Marcelo Brozovic, they are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to try and sign the Inter Milan midfielder.
The 30-year-old is the primary target for the pivot midfield position left vacant by the departure of Sergio Busquets. And despite Al Nassr appearing close to signing him, recent reports suggest that Brozovic has put a halt on that operation as he waits for Barça.
Amidst this, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona directors Deco and Mateu Alemany are busy at work studying different aspects of the deal and trying to make the operation work in the club’s favour.
As per the report, Deco is in talks with Brozovic’s agent as he tries to understand and explore the midfielder’s economic demands.
It is well-established by now that Barça cannot meet the €20 million per year package that the Croatian was offered by Al Nassr. But Deco is working with his representative to explore what might be enough for the midfielder to snub Saudi Arabia and move to Spain.
As for Alemany, he is studying the operation from the Financial Fair Play angle and how the spending on Brozovic’s signing would affect the club’s salary mass and their plans for other transfer targets.
Overall, the Blaugrana are trying to assess how far they can stretch themselves financially to get the Brozovic deal done. Once there is a green light from the club, Xavi will jump into action and speak to the midfielder directly to convince him to make the move to Catalonia.
A separate report from Achraf Ben Ayad indicates that Barcelona tried different formulas to reach an agreement with Inter Milan, but they preferred a deal with Al Nassr. However, due to the player’s stance, that operation has come to a standstill, opening the door for Barça.
With Xavi asking the club to not give up on the deal until the last breath, the Catalans will keep working. But ultimately, the transfer will depend on the will of the player and the Nerazzurri.
