Barcelona are understood to have reached an agreement with Athletico Paranaense for the signing of Vitor Roque. The agreement is understood to be for a transfer worth €35 million plus €10 million.
The striker has also agreed personal terms with the La Liga champions over a six-year contract until 2029 with a salary not greater than €3 million per year. In addition, he will have a mammoth release clause worth €1000 million.
However, as per a fresh report from SPORT, even though the agreement is in place, Barcelona will find it practically impossible to register Roque this summer due to their Financial Fair Play situation.
As such, they will need to sell at least one of Ferran Torres or Ansu Fati in order to make room for the arrival of the 18-year-old wonderkid in the summer.
In such a case, the possibility of Roque being loaned back to Athletico Paranaense until or January or the next summer becomes very realistic.
There is a lot of pessimism surrounding the situation at the club, especially considering that they have been unable to make a single player sale thus far.
Both Fati and Torres have been made available for transfers but they are reluctant to leave while there have not been many appealing offers for them either.
And unless one of them were to leave, registering Roque would be near impossible – a situation that Barcelona are intent on avoiding as Xavi Hernandez & co. wish to have the 18-year-old striker in the team at the earliest possible.
Roque has been in red-hot form for Athletico down in Brazil, having already netted 12 goals and set up five more from 27 matches in the 2023 campaign.
Having him as a backup for Robert Lewandowski would be an excellent addition for Barcelona. But unless they get their affairs in order, registering him would be a huge challenge.
