In a recent interview, Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda has opened up on his future amid links to Barcelona and several other clubs.
The 18-year-old right-back has emerged as a transfer target for Barça, with the club looking for a low-cost option to reinforce the position ahead of the new season.
Fresneda has a release clause worth in his €20 million in his contract with Valladolid and is also courting interest from the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid, among others.
Fresneda is currently away at the U-19 European Championships representing Spain and when asked about his club future, the teenager said (h/t Mundo Deportivo):
“The truth is that right now I am very focused on this competition. I’m very focused on the European Championship, after this competition I will make all the necessary assessments with the club.”
The right-back was further probed if he sees himself playing outside Spain and, in particular, in Italy, to which he responded:
“Let’s see, let’s see… There’s no rush, also because I’m doing well in Valladolid. First the European Championship and then the future.”
As mentioned earlier, a number of big clubs are looking at Fresneda as a target, but Barcelona’s interest appears to be quite serious. There have been meetings with the 18-year-old’s agent already and reports suggest that he might sign a five-year contract with the club.
Furthermore, even though he has a release clause worth €20 million, it has been suggested that Real Valladolid could be open to selling him for €10 million plus add-ons.
It would put the Spanish youngster well within the Catalan giants’ budget range. But with many clubs interested in his services, Barça must move swiftly if they are to close his signing at the earliest possible.
