FC Porto’s transfer movements this summer are going to benefit Barcelona one way or the other. Apart from being in negotiations with the Blaugrana over the move for Nico Gonzalez, the team is also considering the signing of Real Betis left-back Juan Miranda, reports Mundo Deportivo.
Now, Miranda’s name may seem unfamiliar, but the 23-year-old happens to be a former Barcelona youth player. The Sevilla-born defender joined Barcelona’s youth setup in 2014 and it took him until the 2018-19 season to make his senior team debut.
A season after spending a loan tenure with Schalke, Barça arranged his temporary departure to Real Betis for the 2020-21 season. In June 2021, the fellow La Liga side decided to sign him permanently and the Catalan giants retained 50% rights of his future sale.
Miranda’s ongoing deal with Betis runs until 2024 and although the initial idea was to extend the relationship for several more years, nothing concrete has materialized with Betis yet.
But now that Porto have come calling, Betis would want to rake in a good amount mostly because a part of it will anyway go to Barcelona automatically. The Catalans will welcome the financial windfall given their current circumstances.
Meanwhile, as long as Barcelona’s direct association with Porto is concerned, they are currently locked in negotiations over the transfer of Nico Gonzalez.
It is believed that the two teams have settled for a fee of just under €10 million with a buy-back option. If this transfer goes ahead, the player will sign a four-year contract with the Portuguese team.
At this moment, the parties involved are working on the minute details of the move and while earlier it was said that the move is imminent, in reality, it is not. All this means the transfer is not fully closed yet. Once that is done, Nico will be announced as a new Porto player.
