Barcelona could land Tottenham playmaker if they include transfer-listed stars in deal – Romero

According to journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona could secure the services of Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Giovani Lo Celso if they include either Clement Lenglet or Franck Kessie in the deal.

It is highly anticipated that both Lenglet and Kessie are heading towards the exit as both players are well down the pecking order.

The income generated through the sales of the duo would allow Barcelona to register more players for the upcoming season.

Lenglet and Kessie on Tottenham’s agenda

Barcelona have long been trying to find a solution for Lenglet. The defender, who spent the previous season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, has been valued at €15 million.

The Lilywhites have no interest in paying that kind of fee for a player who has no place in Xavi’s blueprint in the first place.

Furthermore, while there are suitors in the market, no one is willing to match his salary, quoted to be around €16 million, that he is pocketing at Barça.

At this moment, the team from Catalonia wants a permanent solution, meaning that they do not want another loan for the defender as that would mean assuming a part of his salary.

As a result, Barcelona seem to have made peace with the fact that his departure is going to take a significant amount of time.

Tottenham’s interest in Kessie is relatively new, but it is said that once Harry Kane’s potential move to Bayern Munich is finalized, they are considering investing some of that amount to sign a midfielder and the Ivorian seems to be on their agenda.

Now, it must be remembered that Juventus happen to be in the race as well, but the team from Turin is fighting a different legal battle at the moment, giving Tottenham the edge.

Lo Celso wanted by Barcelona

As for Barcelona’s interest in Lo Celso, it is believed that the Blaugrana are prioritizing another midfielder despite signing Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu.

And while their first choice is Bernardo Silva, given the difficulties involved in signing him, Lo Celso has appeared to be a cost-effective alternative.

The former PSG and Real Betis ace is a player that manager Xavi Hernandez admires because of his final pass and creativity.

And if what Romero has said is true, the La Liga champions could stand a greater chance of signing the Argentine playmaker if they were to include one of Lenglet and Kessie in the operation.
