With Ousmane Dembele nearing an exit from FC Barcelona, having agreed a five-year contract with PSG, the Catalans are already looking at possible options to replace the Frenchman.
An exit might take a little while to complete, with the two clubs now set to negotiate a fee instead of PSG activating his €50 million release clause.
But, Barça are already working towards finding a replacement for the French international in the eventuality that he ends up joining the Ligue 1 champions.
Alexis Sanchez: A shock option for Barcelona
And, as per journalist Josep Capdevila, Barcelona are looking at former forward Alexis Sanchez as a potential candidate to replace Dembele.
The 34-year-old spent three years at Barça between 2011 and 2014, going on to make 141 appearances, in which he scored 46 and assisted 37 goals.
Alexis left the Catalans for Arsenal in 2014, where he had a successful stint, but his career took a steep nosedive starting in 2018 when he joined Manchester United.
After failed stints with United and Inter Milan, the Chilean star joined Olympique Marseille and enjoyed a solid season, scoring 18 goals from 44 matches.
Sanchez is now a free agent, with his contract at Marseille expiring on June 30 and could join Barcelona for free if they were to act on their interest.
The report from Josep Capdevila adds that the 34-year-old’s agent is in Barcelona today which could further fuel speculations.
Other alternatives to replace Dembele
Apart from Sanchez, the La Liga champions could consider a move for Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco as an option to replace Dembele in the squad.
Reports earlier today even suggested that Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane could be an option for Barcelona.
Internally, the Catalans could look to hand Ez Abde a bigger role in the squad after his impressive performances for club and country over the past year.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Barcelona look at these alternatives or go down the Alexis Sanchez route once Dembele leaves.
