Barcelona could pocket €8-10 million from the sale of former defender

Barcelona are relying on the sale of unwanted stars in a bid to raise some much-needed cash this summer. There are up to seven players facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, as part of the club’s grand overhaul.

However, in addition to player sales, Barcelona are awaiting revenue from other sources. One of them could be the potential sale of former defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who currently plays for OGC Nice in France.

What do Barcelona stand to gain from Todibo deal?

Todibo played for Barcelona between 2019 to 2021. But his time at Camp Nou did not go too well, with the defender racking up only five appearances.

Todibo was sold to Nice permanently for a fee of €8.5 million. However, Barcelona had embedded a 20% future sell-on fee, meaning the club stand to gain one-fifth of Todibo’s sale amount.

This proved to be a masterstroke, as the defender has since created a lot of value for himself due to his performances at Nice.

Todibo attracting interest in Europe

Todibo has been a real success at Nice, having featured in over 100 competitive appearances for the club.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, Nice are facing pressure to offload the defender, with several English clubs interested in his services.

West Ham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are among the clubs who have shown the desire to sign the player. Nice have appeared quite calm at the moment, and value the player at around €40-50 million.

If Todibo ends up leaving Nice for the aforementioned fee, Barcelona could end up receiving a fee of around €8-10 million. Although not significant, this could go a long way in helping Barcelona balance the books, as they look to return to the 1:1 equation.
