Kylian Mbappe has been a regular feature in the news in recent weeks over his impending move to Real Madrid. The player has been a fan of the Merengues from a young age and his desire to play for the club is well-documented.
Yet, reports earlier today bizarrely claimed that Barcelona had entered talks with PSG over signing the star this summer. While it was reported by reliable sources, the updates did not add up for a number of reasons.
For starters, it was unthinkable for a player who had publicly advertised himself as a Real Madrid fan to abruptly consider moving to their arch-rivals. Moreover, it would be impossible for the Catalans to pay PSG any transfer fee or Mbappe his wages given their current financial situation.
According to reports from Ferran Correas, sources from Barcelona state that the club has nothing to do with Kylian Mbappe. The administration strongly suspects that PSG are using the Blaugrana’s name to put pressure on Real Madrid to open a bid, especially considering that all reports leaked were from French outlets.
Rumour had it that the Catalans would be willing to give up one of Gavi or Ousmane Dembele, or both, in their attempt to sign Mbappe. However, Barcelona suspect it was a part of a play from PSG to fast-track the youngster’s departure.
PSG have left Mbappe out of the squad for their pre-season tour and are pressurising him to take a firm decision on his future. The player hopes to join Los Blancos on a free transfer next season, but the French side will not entertain such an option.
The entry of Saudi Arabia on the scene could stir the Merengues’ offices up and force them to make a bid. After all, the €300 million Al-Hilal offer mounts a serious threat to their pursuit of the World Cup winner.
As far as Barcelona are considered, however, there is nothing to the links between them and the PSG superstar.
