Even as Barcelona look to work out a deal for Oriol Romeu, the club might land themselves another jewel in this ongoing transfer market.
This is because the club have recently become attentive to the situation revolving around Thiago Alcantara. The Liverpool star is facing an uncertain future at Anfield, with just one year left on his contract. A potential sale, therefore, is not ruled out, SPORT.
Widely regarded as one of the most successful midfielders in Europe, Thiago has been involved in stints with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and now Liverpool. However, with the Reds beefing up their midfield options by signing Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer, the club have not ruled out the sale of Thiago.
Although the Premier League giants do not want sell Thiago, they are open to listening to offers if the player wishes to depart Anfield this summer.
This has put Barcelona on red alert, as they look to bring back the former La Masia starlet, who might be available for a cut-price deal, with his contract expiring in 2024.
Despite his initial stint at Camp Nou coming to an early end, Thiago is rated highly in the Barcelona camp. He is quite familiar with the club’s style of play and can operate in four different midfield positions.
He can even operate as a short-term replacement for Sergio Busquets in the number six slot. Given his experience and pedigree at the highest level, the former Bayern superstar could be an instant upgrade over Romeu.
However, for the time being, Thiago wants to focus on the pre-season preparation with Liverpool and start the new season on a good note, under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the Spaniard this summer.
