Barcelona set to sign 18-year-old Chelsea attacking prodigy for free – report

While Barcelona are closing in on the capture of Oriol Romeu, they are also working hard at strengthening their youth and subsidiary squads this summer.

Mikayil Faye has already arrived this summer and is already making a big impression on first-team manager Xavi Hernandez. The Blaugrana are also looking at Borussia Dortmund’s 17-year-old left-back Almugera Kabar.

Now, a fresh report from journalist Albert Roge is stating that Barcelona will sign young English winger Tudor Mendel-Idowu from Chelsea on a free transfer.

A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Mendel-Idowu is regarded as one of the best prospects to have come through at Cobham in recent years. A winger by trade, the 18-year-old has scored 13 goals and set up six more in 35 games for the Blues’ Under-18 side.

The versatile winger has also represented the England national team at the Under-17 level on four occasions, bagging three goals in the process.

Mendel-Idowu will now be making the jump to Catalonia, on a free transfer. The teenage prodigy will be signing a three-year contract that will keep him at Barcelona until the summer of 2026.

The report states that Mendel-Idowu is a player that new sporting director Deco is betting on and the winger will initially be with Barça Atletic, where he will soon begin pre-season.

With young talents like Lamine Yamal, Estanis Pedrola, the aforementioned Faye, and Aleix Garcia, among several others coming through the ranks, the addition of another promising player like Mendel-Idowu bodes well for the future of Barcelona.
