Ever since Ilkay Gundogan’s introduction to the Barcelona roster, there has been nothing but praise coming in from his new teammates.
Right from a youngster like Pedri to a veteran such as Robert Lewandowski, everyone has been in awe of the former Manchester City midfielder.
Now, journalist Alex Pintanel revealed on Gerard Romero’s Twitch stream that the club, as a whole, is extremely surprised by the German and how quickly he has gotten used to Xavi’s methods and his adaptation with the rest of the group.
Gundogan making positive early impressions
After weeks of hustle, Barcelona acquired Gundogan’s services in late June, signing him as a free agent for two seasons with an option for an additional year.
Quite recently, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen admitted that he is extremely happy that his fellow German decided to choose the Barça challenge.
“I’ve known Gündogan for a couple of years now, and I’ve been trying to help him with everything that he needs to fit right into the team. Knowing Pep Guardiola, he will be able to adapt easily,” said the stopper.
A few days back, young midfielder Pedri had spoken highly of the treble-winner, saying that Gundogan’s presence brings more composure within the team and he hopes to have a lot of fun with him.
And, it appears that Gundogan is living up to the billing, having adapted very well to Barcelona’s methods as well as his new teammates as per Alex Pintanel.
Gundogan rejected offer from Man City to join Barça
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently admitted that not convincing Gundogan to continue at the Etihad is something that he will regret.
For what it is worth, the midfielder was offered a new contract with much better wages than what he would earn at Barcelona.
The player, however, opted to join the Blaugrana instead and explained his decision by saying: “You can’t say no to Barça. Ever since I was a little boy I have dreamed of playing for this team and defending this crest.”
Gundogan had suggested that playing under Guardiola at City would make it easier for him to adjust to Barcelona’s philosophy.
“Many of the things we do here are similar to what we did at City with Pep and that also gives me an advantage, it’s easier to adapt,” he had said.
And, judging by the look of things it is safe to say that, Gundogan’s time at Barcelona appears to have gotten off to a positive start.
