Barcelona have been dealt with a minor financial setback as SER (h/t Mundo Deportivo) has reported that the team from Catalonia are bound to pay Valencia a sum of €4 million for the transfer of Neto Murara to Bournemouth.
The 33-year-old stopper moved to the Premier League last summer on a free transfer after making a mere 21 appearances for Barcelona over three years.
The reason why Barcelona are supposed to pay Valencia the aforementioned sum is because of an extensive clause that Valencia included in his transfer when he moved to Camp Nou in 2019. In that clause, it was mentioned that Valencia are liable to receive upto €9 million in variables.
It must be remembered that Neto joined Barcelona in 2019 for a fee reported to be around €26 million plus €9 million in add-ons. Only a day after this operation, Jasper Cillessen moved the other way.
In the contract signed between Barcelona and Valencia, it was established that the former would pay €9 million to the latter if the keeper is transferred. Out of those nine million Euros, Valencia only received €3 million when Barcelona agreed to let Neto leave for Bournemouth.
Now, Valencia were due to receive €6 million but during the months of litigation, Barcelona argued that they are not liable to pay anything as they gave Neto a letter of freedom. They assured Valencia that they have not received any fee for the move.
The Valencia management, however, responded that this termination of the contract was a very clever move from Barcelona as they tried to avoid paying €6 million. This disagreement caused the conflict and the two parties settled through an out-of-court agreement.
This is why Valencia will now receive €4 million as compensation for the departure of the keeper.
