As speculations surrounding Ousmane Dembele and his future at FC Barcelona continue to do the rounds, MARCA has come up with an interesting revelation on the matter.
Dembele and PSG are already understood to have an agreement over a five-year contract and the move seemed imminent as it appeared that his €50 million release clause was set to be activated.
But, as things stand, that possibility is no longer on the table as the Frenchman has asked for the two clubs to negotiate a transfer fee instead of leaving by activating the exit clause.
Furthermore, with the €50 million clause expiring at midnight today, there does not appear to be enough time to get all paperwork in order either.
As such, the two teams are now set to enter into negotiations to discuss an agreeable transfer fee over the transfer.
Barcelona wanted Marco Verratti as part of Dembele deal
And, MARCA is reporting that Barcelona were interested in acquiring the services of Marco Verratti as part of the deal that would see Dembele move to PSG.
Verratti is a player that has been admired by Barça for a very long time, which is not a surprise considering the quality that the Italian international boasts.
So, there was consideration about asking PSG to include him in any possible deal for Dembele.
However, those plans were shelved as soon as Saudi Arabia entered the picture, with the Italian international now believed to be on his way to the Middle East.
Reports suggest that the midfield mainstay is set to sign a three-year contract with Al Hilal, which ends any thought of Barça asking for him in the deal for Dembele.
The two teams will now try and work out a deal for the Frenchman, possibly for an amount close enough to the €50 million release clause value.
