With PSG moving forward with their pursuit of Ousmane Dembele, there is a lot of pessimism surrounding the 26-year-old’s continuity at FC Barcelona.
Dembele is believed to have already agreed a five-year contract with Les Parisiens and his agent, Moussa Sissoko, is working on paying the €50 million release clause before midnight, at which point its value increases to €100 million.
Dembele, as per reports, wants to leave Barcelona amicably and would prefer to leave after the two clubs negotiate a transfer fee, rather than his release clause being activated.
But, with such a strategy unlikely, it appears that the Frenchman might look to help Barcelona gain more financially from the deal by a different approach, reports SPORT.
Dembele could give up part of his €25 million share
As part of the contract that Dembele signed with Barcelona last year, the club inserted a release clause in his agreement that would be worth €50 million between June 1 and July 31.
Furthermore, if his release clause is activated, as per the terms agreed, Barça would only receive half the sum, i.e., €25 million, with the remaining half going to the player and his agent.
As per the report, Dembele could be open to giving up part of his €25 million share from the transfer fee, so that Barça could receive a bigger chunk of the release clause amount.
As such, the La Liga champions could end up pocketing a total of €40 million from the operation rather than the €25 million they would have if PSG do end up triggering his release clause by midnight today.
It remains to be seen how the situation evolves as PSG and Dembele do not have a lot of time before the €50 million clause expires and the new €100 million exit clause takes its place instead.
