In an official statement release, UEFA have confirmed that they have imposed a fine of €500,000 on FC Barcelona in relation to wrongful declaration of profits during the 2022 financial year.
“FC Barcelona (ESP) was imposed a fine of €500,000 for wrongly reporting, in the financial year 2022, profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations,” the statement from UEFA reads.
The fine was issued by the governing body’s the first Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Committee (CFCB) on the La Liga champions for an erroneous declaration of profits in the previous financial year.
UEFA confirmed the decisions of the chamber earlier today, after concluding the evaluation of the break-even requirement that covers the financial years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
It must be noted that the fine is in no way related to the Negreira case and UEFA’s investigation into the matter. And there will be no implications on Barcelona’s involvement in the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming season either.
Barça president Joan Laporta confirmed in a recent interview that there will be no complications as far as the club’s participation in the Champions League owing to the Negreira case.
“Yes, we are now calmer. The recommendation of the UEFA investigators leads to the conclusion that they cannot punish us before we are even tried,” he had said.
They understand that this must be the procedure and they have made this known to the UEFA Appeals Committee and all the news leads to the fact that we are going to play in the Champions League.”
Even though the fine might not be very significant, given the Blaugrana’s financial situation at the moment, the added expense of €500,000 will not be welcome.
