Xavi also wants a new left-back at Barcelona if FFP permits report

Barcelona have recently stepped up their pursuit of a new right-back this summer. With the club devoid of any recognised option in the position, coupled with Sergino Dest facing an uncertain future, signing a right-back has indeed become the need of the hour.

Barcelona have made some efforts in signing Ivan Fresneda but are yet to reach a consensus over the player’s age and his price tag, which could exceed the €10 million mark.

Nevertheless, signing a right-back has indeed become a priority for Barcelona. However, according to Gerard Romero, that is not Xavi Hernandez’s only priority in the market right now.

As per the Spanish journalist, the Barcelona head coach is also looking for a new left-back. If the Financial Fair Play situation permits, Xavi is willing to go after a new left-back once the club manage to bring in a new right-back this summer.

Xavi’s desire to sign a new left-back is hardly surprising, as Barcelona have had to deal with the departure of Jordi Alba. The veteran defender opted to mutually terminate his contract at the end of last season and is currently a free agent, with Inter Miami his likely destination.

However, it must be noted that Barcelona are not facing any immediate crisis in the position. In fact, the departure of Alba may only catapult the rise of Alejandro Balde, who is more than likely to become the club’s first-choice left-back next season.

Marcos Alonso is there to provide cover for the young Spaniard, as the player has done in the recent past. The former Chelsea defender has even signed a new contract with the club which is expected to be registered with La Liga soon.

Despite that, though, the manager is considering the prospect of signing a new left-back to further reinforce the position, that is if the FFP situation permits.
