€10 million-rated Barcelona defender emerges as a transfer target for Girona

Having taken Pablo Torre on loan from FC Barcelona this summer, Girona have now set their sights on another player from Xavi Hernandez’s squad in Eric Garcia.

This claim comes from journalist Nil Sola, who reports that Girona manager Michel likes the Barcelona defender’s profile and sees him as an option at centre-back as well as a pivot midfielder.

Garcia not a regular under Xavi

Garcia has lost prominence in the Barcelona setup under Xavi Hernandez and is far from establishing a spot in the starting XI.

As things stand, the former Manchester City ace is behind Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Andreas Christensen in the pecking order at the club.

So far this season, the 22-year-old, whose market value stands at €10 million, has played just 11 minutes in total across two games.

With Barça closing in on Joao Cancelo’s capture, Araujo will be back playing at centre-back along with one of Kounde or Christensen, which would affect Garcia’s chances of getting minutes.

Furthermore, once Inigo Martinez returns to full fitness, he too could be preferred over the 22-year-old as the veteran would provide Xavi with a left-footed option in defence.

As such, Garcia’s prospects of playing regularly at Barcelona look rather bleak at this point.

And, Girona are said to be interested in the La Masia graduate as they look to reinforce the squad in the final week of the window.

Manager Michel reportedly likes the player’s ball-playing qualities and his ability to recover possession and sees him as a suitable option at centre-back and No. 6.

Eric, for his part, would reportedly be open to the idea, as per the report. But whether there are any movements on this front this late in the window remains to be seen.
