As Barcelona prepare for their first game of the 2023/24 season against Getafe on Sunday, they could have to go into the contest without one of their key defenders in Andreas Christensen.
The 27-year-old centre-half picked up an injury during the pre-season friendly against Real Madrid while on the US tour and had to be taken off the pitch.
Following that, Christensen did not feature against AC Milan or Tottenham Hotspur as he continues his recovery from the injury.
SPORT’s David Bernabeu Reverter is now reporting that the former Chelsea defender was at the club’s training facilities today despite Xavi giving the entire squad the day off.
While Christensen is continuing his recovery, the report claims that, as things stand, his availability for Sunday’s clash against Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez is difficult.
A final call on whether the Danish international features or not will be taken after tomorrow’s training session, the report adds.
Araujo ready to go
While there may be some doubts about Christensen, his defensive partner Ronald Araujo seems set to be fit and available for the game.
The 24-year-old was taken off due to discomfort against Tottenham but the injury is not serious and all signs point towards him being at Xavi’s disposal for the game.
Araujo was also at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper today to continue his recovery training along with Christensen and a few other stars like Inigo Martinez, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, and Eric Garcia.
And, it is expected that the Uruguayan will be available to feature this Sunday, although Christensen’s availability will be determined based on the feeling of tomorrow’s session.
Meanwhile, new signing Martinez will not feature as he is still recovering from his last season’s fascia injury.
