It has been widely reported by multiple reliable sources that Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.
The 29-year-old has been a top target for the Blaugrana to reinforce the right-back position and it is reported that the deal could be completed before the end of the week.
No formal offer yet
While things are understood to be moving in the right direction, Alex Pintanel is now reporting that Barcelona are yet to send a formal offer to Manchester City for Cancelo.
The report from Pintanel further claims that there have been no direct contact between the two clubs and Jorge Mendes has been acting as the mediator in negotiations.
Manchester City are very well aware of Barça’s interest in the 29-year-old and there is no doubt about the transfer going through, but there is still no formal offer on the table.
And Mendes will be in charge of carrying it from the Catalans to the English champions.
It has been suggested that Cancelo will be arriving on a season-long loan with a permanent buy option worth a little over €30 million.
The purchase is clause is not mandatory and will be triggered if the player meets certain objectives during his stint in Catalonia.
The Blaugrana have held an interest in Cancelo since January, with manager Xavi, in particular, pushing hard for his signing.
And, as things stand, the deal is said to be closing in on completion, with all parties involved eager to put an end to the saga at the earliest possible.
