Barcelona defender’s substitution against Cadiz was precautionary, no injury – report

With Ronald Araujo already sidelined for a month due to an injury, Barcelona fans were given a minor scare on Sunday when Andreas Christensen was taken off during the second half of the match against Cadiz.

The Danish international, who had been performing very well in the game, appeared to be limping for a bit and feeling his knee after a coming-together with Chris Ramos.

Eventually, he appeared to have shaken it off, but Xavi did make a substitution in the 79th minute, replacing Christensen with Eric Garcia.

Christensen not injured

Christensen’s substitution did raise a bit of concern, especially at a time when Araujo is out and Inigo Martinez has still not recovered from his injury.

However, Sergi Capdevila of SPORT has come up with an update, reporting that the former Chelsea defender’s substitution was merely precautionary and he has no injury.

Christensen sustained a minor knock on the field and his situation is not understood to be a cause for concern for the Blaugrana at this point.

With Xavi giving the entire team two days off after the win against Cadiz, it is expected that the defensive mainstay will recover in that time and be ready to face Villarreal in the upcoming weekend.

This comes as a relief for Barcelona, considering how important a cog Christensen is in Xavi’s team.

Since joining the club last year on a free transfer, the Danish international has been one of the most consistent performers for the La Liga champions and is a certain starter when fit and available.

With Araujo expected to be out until after the international break, losing Christensen to an injury would have been no short of a disaster for Barça. But, thankfully, that does not appear to be the case.
