Barcelona set to add former academy product to backroom staff in a key role

Barcelona are currently overseeing a structural change in their hierarchy, with movements taking place behind closed doors.

After the official announcement declaring Mateu Alemany’s departure at the end of the summer transfer window and the rank of sporting director bestowed on Deco, the possibility of another former Barcelona player taking control of the club’s technical affairs has been raised.

According to AS, Bojan Krkic has emerged as one of the potential players to join the Catalans’ newly assembled sporting structure.

Bojan, back where he belongs

Following the ascendancy of Deco in the boardroom, Barcelona are looking at Bojan to serve as a crucial component, with his experience as a player bound to aid the club’s youth.

Emerging from a lineage steeped in excellence, Bojan graduated from La Masia and broke Lionel Messi’s record of being the youngest player to make their debut for Barça in La Liga at 17 years and 19 days.

His career got off to a blazing start as he was hailed as the next big thing, but despite his tremendous talents, Bojan suffered from the overwhelming pressure placed on him by external factors.

It led to him being deemed one of the many “what could have been” talents, with the forward announcing his retirement earlier this year after a journeyman career.

Now, with Barça engrossed in a transformative phase and several bright talents emerging from the academy, the Catalans hope these youngsters are raised in a secure environment without the media’s noise interrupting their development.

While Bojan’s role is not yet definite, it is reported that he could play a significant role as a mentor to the likes of Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez, who are already under immense scrutiny at very tender ages.

Bojan, being a Blaugrana, is aware of the baggage one carries while acquiring stardom at a young age, and the 32-year-old is well-versed in the world of football.

The former Barcelona man’s experience could prove pivotal.
