Barcelona staff ‘delighted’ with La Masia graduate, believe he is returning to his best

With still three weeks left in the transfer window, there are contradicting reports doing the rounds with regard to the future of Barcelona academy graduate Ansu Fati.

The 20-year-old had been linked with a move for much of the summer, but on the back of his performances in pre-season, coupled with Ousmane Dembele’s imminent exit, it was suggested that Barça were going to count on him.

However, only earlier today, reports emerged stating that the Blaugrana do not really count on the 20-year-old and would be open to cashing in on him as president Joan Laporta wants a big-name signing.

Xavi and his staff happy with Ansu

Amidst all the back and forth, though, a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo is claiming that manager Xavi Hernandez and the rest of the Barcelona coaching staff are delighted with Ansu Fati.

The 20-year-old worked hard during the off-season to improve himself physically and the results are showing on the pitch, with Xavi and his staff very happy with the way Ansu has shown up in pre-season thus far.

Xavi was of the opinion that Fati could benefit from a season away on loan, but that has changed now and the staff sees the 20-year-old close to returning to his best level based on how he has been training and performing so far in pre-season.

In the locker room, they see Fati to be in a good moment and very motivated to succeed, while he has also become more opened up in his interactions.

One of the reasons why Fati’s future became a topic of discussion again this summer was the comments Xavi made after the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Tottenham.

When asked about the 20-year-old’s continuity, Xavi left the door open for a possible exit, stating that the transfer window is still open and things could change.

However, the report claims that Xavi’s comments were not just related to Fati and in general to the other forwards as well.

And the manager’s words did not mean that Barcelona are necessarily looking to sell him, but a good offer will be studied if it arrived, much like what happened with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last summer.

Ansu wants to stay

Despite all the rumours of interest from Saudi Arabia and proposals from the Premier League, what has not changed is Ansu’s desire to stay.

The 20-year-old does not wish to leave his boyhood club and wishes to achieve success here by scoring a lot of goals and forcing his way back into the starting XI under Xavi.
