Barcelona target looking to terminate his contract with Atletico Madrid – report

Joao Felix has endured a rough few months with Atletico Madrid and having seemingly fallen out of favour at the club after a largely unsuccessful loan stint with Chelsea, it looks as though the Portuguese youngster has had enough.

After being linked to Barcelona for a large chunk of the summer, it seems as though the move could gain some traction in the final couple of weeks of the transfer window.

It was reported previously that if Neymar’s move does not materialise, Felix is Barcelona’s preferred option.

After the Brazilian was unveiled as an Al Hilal player earlier today, reports of a move for Felix have been picking back up.

Felix booed by Atleti fans

The youngster received a rather hostile welcome back to the Wanda Metropolitano in Atletico Madrid’s La Liga season-opener against Granada, where he was booed by the home fans.

Given the difficulties he has faced lately, Spanish outlet LaSexta report that Felix is considering terminating his contract with the Rojiblancos.

Felix also previously stated his desire to play for Barcelona rather expressly, and with the Catalans seeking reinforcements in attack, the Felix operation could certainly pick up more steam.

With the Blaugrana bound heavily by their financial constraints, a contract termination could play right into their hands and they acquire Felix for free and add more depth into the attack.

The 23-year-old’s current contract with Atleti runs till 2027, which makes a direct approach to buy him almost impossible.

With less than two weeks of the transfer window left, Felix and his entourage will have to move swiftly if they are to find the youngster a spot in a team where he can enjoy football again regularly during the 2023/24 season.
